About

At Radon Rapid Response, our mission is to reduce radon levels in homes, improve indoor air quality, and lower the risk of lung cancer.

Our vision is a future where every homeowner knows their radon levels, and radon mitigation systems are standard in all homes—just like smoke detectors or carbon monoxide alarms.

The Facts About Radon

Natural & Dangerous

Radon is a naturally occurring gas produced from the radioactive decay of uranium in rocks and soil. It is colourless, odourless and tasteless. Recent studies have shown that the Western Canadian Prairie provinces are the second most Radon exposed populations on the planet. Radon gas seeps into homes through cracks in walls, floors, foundations, floor drains and sumps. Houses in cold climates are at particular risk since windows and doors are kept closed for over half the year, which allows the Radon gas to accumulate to such dangerous levels. It is recommended to get Radon testing every two years as any major ground disturbance (i.e. road construction) within 5 km's of the home can drastically affect your levels.

The Effects of Radon

Radon is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in Canada, accounting for about 16 percent of cases or 3,300 deaths per year. Radon is a Class 1 carcinogen meaning a direct link to cancer has been established by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). Lung cancer is caused by prolonged exposure to high levels of Radon gas. A 2009-11 national study of 14,000 homes showed more than 1,500 had unacceptable levels. Some studies have also indicated that due to children having higher respiratory rates, they are more likely to inhale Radon and cause damage on a cellular level. This damage being incurred in childhood allows for more time for cancer cells to form due to the amount of life left to live.

The Invisible Guest

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that is produced from the decay of uranium found in soil, rock, and water.

Radon gas is colorless, odorless, and tasteless, making it difficult to detect without specialized equipment.

  • Radon enters your home via the basement foundation.

  • As we heat our homes, the warm air ascends and leaves through the attic.

  • This upward air movement generates a "stack effect," causing negative pressure in the basement.

  • This negative pressure functions like a vacuum on the foundation slab, pulling in air and radon gas.

Customer Stories that make us Proud

I thought my new home was equipped with a radon system but it was only a rough-in.  I'm an occasional smoker, understanding the elevated risk of smoking and high radon associated with lung cancer was eye opening...

Kevin, Calgary

My wife recently battled cancer and my son lives in the basement, so lowering radon levels is very important in our home.  Radon Rapid Response was able to bring our levels from >270 down to ~10

Cam, Calgary

Lauren accurately measured my radon levels and determined no immediate action was required, he educated me on the fundamentals of radon and  recommended a radon monitoring device to continue to monitor over the winter to see if mitigation was required. The honest and timely professional opinion was greatly appreciated!
